Will Gibbs began playing the bass at age 14 with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony and the Portland Youth Philharmonic. Through high school, he studied with Glen Moore, bassist for the Grammy-nominated jazz group, Oregon. After arriving at Portland State University, Will began studying the Orchestra Bass with Jeffrey Johnson, assistant principal of the Oregon Symphony. Eventually, he was led to the legendary jazz educator, Alan Jones, and considers himself extremely fortunate to be one of his students. Will is an active member of the new music scene at Portland State University, keen to perform pieces composed by his friends and colleagues.
